The floatation tank is a large, enclosed tub that contains a dense solution of water and Epsom salts. The solution is dense enough so that you float effortlessly on top of the water. You might say that you experience a sort of weightlessness in this state. The floating experience virtually eliminates the effects of gravity on your system, giving your brain much less environmental input to deal with. The solution, 10 inches deep, is maintained at average skin temperature, 93.5° F. The environment is also designed to be free of sound and light, eliminating both auditory and visual sensory input. The accumulated effect of reducing these sources of sensory input is to enable you to enter a deep state of relaxation, more beneficial than that experienced while sleeping. Most floaters report enhanced mental powers, and virtually all find the experience immensely pleasant. The float provides, according to many prominent scientists, “the deepest and most total rest we have ever experienced”. Observed Benefits of Floating
Studies have shown that physiologically 1 hour in the floatation tank is equivalent to 4 hours of the most relaxing and restful sleep you have ever experienced. Users of the tank come from all walks of life - business people, students, housewives, athletes, etc. They are people who recognize that they need to compensate for the excess mental and physical stress in their lives. These people use the floatation tank to offset the risk of injury or illness, release tension, rehabilitate overstressed muscles, improve concentration, enhance creativity and increase energy. People often ask how frequently they should float in order to stay relaxed and achieve the maximum benefits of floating. The answer is truly individual. Whether you float three times a week or once a month depends on the amount of stress you are experiencing in your life and on the coping strategies you are already using. When faced with periods of high stress, you may want to float more often. Even when you are pressed for time, “the short float” will often improve your efficiency and help you make the best use of the time you do have. Some people have learned to plan float sessions at crucial points during their creative or problem solving projects. Regular floating can reduce stress on a long term basis. This is vital in preventing or alleviating stress related disease. Perhaps even more important, a new level of relaxation will be reflected in everything you do. If you already practice some form of meditation, the floatation tank provides an ideal setting to achieve even deeper levels of the meditative experience. It is also important to note that the effects of floatation increase with the second and third time you float and each time beyond. It takes a float or two to get the hang of it. Simply allow yourself to get used to the idea of floating effortlessly, and let your body and mind relax. If your first float does not produce the effects you anticipate, do not worry. As you become accustomed to floatation, you will automatically benefit from it. Highest Intentions believes that the benefits of floating may, in many cases, be greater than those achieved through other forms of relaxation. However, we don’t pretend that floating is the only preventative health care method a person should use. Nutrition, exercise, massage and relaxation should all be woven into a person’s lifestyle and particular needs. Floating could be an essential part of an individual’s total fitness and health care program. Sessions are by appointment only. 1 hour float* is $65.00 and a 1 ½ hour float* is $90.00.
